This 2024 has been both a tough and blockbuster year for Tamil movie buffs.
The first half of 2024 was filled with low budget Tamil movies but slightly expected heroes movies.
Top star’s films were released in the second half of the year, but only a few climbed the top of the blockbuster list.
This list is based on highly expected Tamil Movies that disappointed audiences during theatrical release and listed in flop Tamil movies.
Here the list of Tamil flop movies and box office failure.
10. Ayalaan
The film Ayalaan released in January 2024 as a treat for audiences who were waiting for a pongal release.
Cast: Siva Karthikeyan, Rakul Preet Singh and Yogi Babu.
Rating: 2.5/5
Due to unfinished production works and a lot of re-writing of scripts the film has kept the fans waiting for almost 4 years for its release.
Ayalaan director Ravikumar, who captivated audiences with his previous film “Indru Netru Naalai”, has failed to do the same, with Ayalaan.
Predictable storyline and a plot made only for children were said to be the reason for the failure of this film, making it one of the noted Tamil flop movies of 2024.
The film reportedly gained 80-100 crores across the globe even though it was showered with negative reviews left and right.
9. Captain Miller
Dhanush starrer Captain Miller clashed with Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan as Pongal released on 12th January 2024.
Cast: Dhanush, Priyanka Mohan and Shivarajkumar.
Rating: 3/5
The trailer and teaser cut spiked up audience interests in the film but the situation turned upside down after its release.
The film reportedly failed to meet cinephiles’ expectations due to weak script and familiar story line.
However, the film has grossed over 104 crores despite its major flaws and rave reviews (thanks to Dhanush’s stardom).
Even though the film was officially a box office success, critics and audiences considered it as a huge flop in their perspective.
8. Lal Salaam
Aishwarya Rajinikanth made her comeback into K’town after nearly a decade, with the Lal Salaam movie after her last release Vai Raja Vai.
Cast: Vishnu Vishal, Vikrant and Rajini
Rating: 2.5/5
Despite its bold ideas and themes, the film failed to meet audience expectations due to last minute editing and “missing of an hard-disk” that comprises important portions of the film.
The film was in a very non-linear format and confused the audience, even Rajinikanth’s extended cameo role could not save its failure.
The film only earned around 17 crores worldwide, despite its nearly 100 crore budget.
It is also important to note that no OTT Platform claimed its digital rights yet because of the said hard disk missing.
7. Indian 2
Actor Kamal Haasan and Director Shankar collaborated for Indian 2 movie after 28 years just to face a huge failure and trolling stuff for Kamal.
Cast: Kamal, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani and Kajal Aggarwal
Rating: 2.5/5
The film followed the story line of Senapathy, an honest Indian citizen, who hated corruption.
From the start of shooting until the release date, this film faced one challenge after another just to disappoint the audience on the big screen.

The film became a troll material after the first show itself regardless of the crew’s best efforts.
Even the talented cast like Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, even late actor Vivek in AI Technology has failed to save the film.
Despite poor reviews, the film grossed over 150 crores across the world.
6. Siren
The movie follows the story of an ex ambulance driver who was wrongly sent to prison but finds himself involved in several murder cases.
Cast: Keerthy Suresh, Anupama Parameshwaran and Jayam Ravi,
Rating: 2.5/5
Though the plot was gripping, screenplay and writing failed to resonate with the audience.
Jayam Ravi’s underperformance as a prisoner and bland story line is reported to be the reason for the failure of this film.
Fans who were waiting for Ravi’s comeback since the Comali movie left the theatre in disappointment and went on to spew trolls about him doing the old age role, which did not suit him well.
The movie reportedly collected 15 crores worldwide and failed at the box office.
5. Raghu Thatha
Keerthy Suresh’s Raghu Thatha became a box office bomb during its theatrical release but earned a handful of positive reviews after its OTT Release.
Rating: 3/5
Set in the early 70s, the story revolves around a fierce young woman Kayalvizhi Pandiyan who fights against Hindi Imposition and oppression against women.
Main plot of the movie talks about “linguistic politics” which gives audience more boring experience.
Although the plot was good, the unattempted execution made the audience ignore this film in the theatre due to some cringy performance of Keerthy Suresh.
4. Vettaiyan
Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan was released in October with less than minimal expectations among fans but failed to catch the success point.
Cast: Rajini, Faisal, Rana, Big B and Manju Warrier.
Rating: 3/5
Because, unlike the previous movie Jailer director Nelson Dilipkumar, TJ Gnanavel was slightly new to the industry and had not given any commercial hits since Jai Bhim.
K’town gossip suggested that Rajinikanth was not satisfied with the film’s output since it had only few mass elements, and absence of aura for his character.
Reports suggested that even Thalaivar fans gagged during his romantic scenes with Manju Warrier.
Predictable storyline, dull twists, and lack of emotional depth made this movie fall short of success, adding it to the list of notable Tamil flop movies of 2024.
However, Vettaiyan is also amongst the list of Tamil films which have grossed more than 100 crores in a short span of time.
3. Brother
Brother movie was directed by Rajesh, who is known for his family-fun oriented dramas like SMS, Boss Engira Bhaskaran, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi.
The film was released on Diwali to compete with Amaran and Bloody Beggar.
Cast: Jayam Ravi, Natty, Priya Mohan and Bhoomika.
Rating: 2.5/5
Needless to say, the audience already knew this was not gonna make it into the big league, battling with high-expectation movies like Amaran.
It has also become one of the reasons why it failed to attract audiences during both theatrical and OTT Release.
The Movie’s excessive length and weak narration are said to be the reason for its failure.
In the end, the film became yet another consecutive flop movie for Jayam Ravi in Tamil after “Akilan”.
2. Bloody Beggar
After Dada and Star movie success, Kavin was in glee to sign Bloody Beggar with Nelson Dilipkumar as a producer.
Cast: Kavin, Radha Ravi,Merin Philip and Redin Kingsley
Rating: 2.5/5
Actor Kavin’s look as beggar, thriller striking trailer cut skyrocketed audience’s anticipation for the film.
Just like Brother movie, Bloody Beggar’s release was also smashed by Amaran as a Diwali release.
However, this movie joined the list of Tamil flop movies of 2024 due to its tasteless script that failed to impress the general audience.
Mixed reviews and limited screens were regarded as reasons for the failure of this film. However, the film gained positive response after its OTT Release.
1. Kanguva
Suriya starrer Kanguva has become one of the top most flops of the year, despite its high budget and well-versed promotional activities.
Cast: Suriya, Bobby Deol, Disha Patani and Yogi Babu
Rating: 2/5
Being one of the top stars of the industry, Suriya has gained lakhs of fans, but also a handful of haters.
We have a question- For past 10 years, why Suriya can’t give a theatrical blockbuster
Following negative reviews, Jyothika’s post about a set of people spewing hatred on her husband only fueled up the already burning fire.
Fans who watched Kanguva in the theatre reported that they had an unpleasant experience with the movie sound works and music was jarring.
Weak writing, lack of emotion, and poor plotline were believed to be the reason for this film’s failure, solidifying its place among Tamil flop movies of 2024.
The film was made with a budget around 340 crores but reportedly collected over only 100 crores.
