This year, while Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have struggled to deliver hit films, Vijay became the box office king as usual.
On the other hand, next-generation promising actor Sivakarthikeyan, surprised his fans and the industry with his banger movie Amaran.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in and explore the blockbuster hit films that made 2024!

When the trailer and ‘Whistle Podu’ song came out, fans lost all hopes for this movie because they were mediocre.
Fans went to the theatre, expecting disappointment. But the opposite happened when Vijayakanth’s AI cameo showed on screen.
Venkat Prabhu’s creativity to CSK-Dhoni appearance along with perfectly cast cameo of Trisha and SK paired with average storyline, has led the film to its success.

Sai Pallavi’s performance as Indhu Rebecca Varghese, SK’s fierceness as Major Mukund left the audience in awe.
Emotional connection, fast screen-play, and exceptional performances by the stars led to attracting family audiences and making it a celebration in theatres.
Even after 40 days of theatrical release, Amaran continues to run successfully in notable theatres in Chennai as a prime-time show.
The film has reportedly earned over 339 crores worldwide, marked as the fastest collection and one of the blockbuster Tamil Films in 2024.

No one (not even his fans) expected him to write a full rampage action-thriller film after 7 years of feel-good movies like Pa.Pandi.
Even with foreseeing plot twists, the film has received positive responses from reviewers because of its gripping storyline.
SJ Surya’s comedy-villany performance and showcasing of Dhanush-Dushara’s siblings bond added significant value to the story and elevated the film in box office.

Maharaja seems to fit under all the above categories which is why it thrived at the box office.
Maharaja was recently released in China, and the audience reportedly received the movie with raised eyebrows and wide eyes that left them completely shocked.

5. Aranmanai 4
Cast: Sundar.C, Tamannaah, Raashii Khanna

Plot: A lawyer deals with a supernatural force ‘baak’ that is linked with his sister’s mysterious death.
People who are afraid of ghosts, always have a liking towards the Aranmanai franchise movie since it mostly consists of comedic scenes rather than jump scares.
Unlike his previous Aranmanai films, Sundar.C tried a different concept in Aranmanai 4 and introduced ‘Baak’ a spirit who seeks vengeance on the entire village.
This film focused more on horrific elements without including too much of comedy that he usually does.
Although the film received mixed reviews, it attracted more family audiences to the theatre and earned over 53 crores in the first week itself.
Tamannah’s emotional performance as a mother of two, and perfect cast placement added immense value to the film.

Prashanth decided to come out of hibernation, after a prolonged break from cinema after a series of flop movies and Andhagan movie rewarded him with success.
This film did justice to the original version Andhadhun which was a massive success in the Bollywood industry.
Typically, it is believed that when a film spends more than a year in production, there is a big chance it might underperform in the Box Office.

And when the film hits the theatre, it might or might not meet audience expectations.
The second type is often the impactful one, a form of promotion that gains audience interests via positive word of mouth and reviews post-release.
Lubber Pandhu was a perfect mix of comedy and drama that let the audience dwell into a fresh narrative.
Just like Vijay’s GOAT movie, Lubber Pandhu crew also has to bring back Vijayakanth by playing his song “Pottu Vacha Thanga Kudam” to boost up audience interest.
Some film critics say that Lubber Bandu is one of the most irreproachable films released this year. It is also important to note that this is Tamizharasan’s debut film.

If it were any other stars, it would’ve looked up as a promotional gimmick, but that wasn’t the case here. Their tears were genuine, as were the audience.
Nikhila Vimal’s portrayal of Poongodi teacher and Kalaiyarasan as Kani were the perfect cherry on top for the enhancing of an emotional depth film like this.

Exceptional performers like Manikandan, could easily fit into the character like boy-next-door persona through Arun character.

Luckily for Lover, Lal Salaam received negative reviews which worked in its favour.
Gowri’s acting as Divya, a young woman who is stuck with her toxic boyfriend someone who is struggling to heal, mirrored many women’s early 20’s life.
The film’s message could’ve been misunderstood. But fortunately, it reached the right audience which became a big reason for this film’s success.

This mystery and psychological drama that makes the viewers sit at the edge of their seat and make their eyes pop open wide to understand the twists that are happening in the film.
